Key Tips For Running a Successful Evaluation

  1. VISUALIZE: Ensure you have a clear vision for which drills are to be run.Run through them in your head and ensure you know how everything will flow
  2. EQUIPMENT: Ensure you have all necessary equipment for each drill
  3. SKILL APPROPRIATE DRILLS: Ensure drills are appropriate for the age group
  4. DRILL RUNNERS: Ensure you have enough people to run the drills.  Running simultaneous stations is best if you have enough help.
  5. STRENGTH IN NUMBERS: More evaluators the better!!  This reduces incorrect judgements/potential bias and will allow multiple stations to be run at once if you have enough.
  6. TRY NOT TO MEASURE TOO MUCH: Make sure not to have too many metrics for evaluators to gather data for
  7. CONSISTENCY: Example: In a baseball hitting drill, far better to split up Evaluator A handling metrics 1&2(e.g. Mechanics and Power) while Evaluator B measures metrics 3&4(e.g. Contact and Placement) than to have each evaluator try to do too much or only be responsible for half the group.  What Evaluator A marks a ‘5’ out of 10 may not be what Evaluator B would.
